About the contest
The Bembel competition is a so-called “open” competition with different categories and levels. “Open” means that more than one bronze, silver and gold medal can be awarded in each category (“Technique”, “Expression” & “Gaming”) and in each level (“Standard” & “Master”). The jury evaluates all displays (all entries by a single participant in category) in a category and level and decides which entries meet the requirements for gold, silver and bronze and which may not receive a medal but a special commendation (“highly commended”).
Displays are judged by the strongest entry. Only one award is given per display – that for the strongest entry, or the full display (if all entries are equal).
Everyone is invited to take part in the competition in all categories.
The only restriction: Participation is only possible if the submitted entry can be exhibited for the entire duration of the event (latest 01:00 pm on Saturday until after the award ceremony on Sunday).
The Bembel is of course also about medals, but we also want to emphasise other aspects, especially the community and the exchange with other artists and hobbyists. Of course, everyone likes to win, but in the end there can’t be a medal for everyone. However, the experiences we gain from sharing our art and creativity with others, feedback on our work and new inspiration are also usually a win.
For some of us, the word “competition” can be intimidating, especially if we are new to the hobby. Please know that we’ve all been there and it’s a great feeling to exhibit your pieces and talk about them with others. Or to ask another painter about how they achieved a certain technique.
The Jury will be doing the judging of the contest pieces during the event, meaning that the contest area will not be shut off from the public. The jury should not be approached during the judging. If this cannot be guaranteed otherwise, the exhibition area will be closed.
Registration for the competition
Before you register your models for the competition: think about the categories and level in which you would like your entries to be judged. You will find information on this in the regulations. Unlike other shows, the Bembel Miniature Cup has very few categories, which should make it a little easier to find the right one. Basically, in each display (all the figures you exhibit in a category) the strongest exhibits will be judged – so you don’t have to worry that showing an older exhibit will reduce your chances. We look forward to seeing lots of exhibits – and you and the other spectators will certainly be too!
The application and registration of figures will be done via the Emperor service. The link to Emperor, timelines and registration fees will be published prior to the show.
